New Audi TT goes racing

The Audi Sport TT Cup will be a one make-racing series which will be held as part of the DTM support series starting from the 2015 season.

The race prepped Audi TT will be powered by the same 2.0-litre, turbocharged unit from the production car. It produces 310hp and a ‘push-to-pass’ feature will temporarily boost the power output by 30hp for a total of 340hp. Power is transferred to the wheels by the same 6-speed S-tronic automated gearbox found in the production model. Audi has added a driver controlled, electronically variable active front differential, to ensure optimum traction at the front wheels. The car is fitted with the Audi PS1 Safety Seat from the Audi R8 LMS ultra race car. The Audi TT race car will weigh 1,125kg.

Audi’s Sport’s ‘quattro’ division will prepare 24 cars of which 18 cars will be available for regular drivers and 6 cars will be reserved for guest drivers. Two races of the Audi Sport TT Cup are planned at each of the six DTM events in Germany and neighbouring countries in 2015.

Former Audi DTM driver and winner Markus Winkelhock will train the 18 race participants. The winner of the Audi Sport TT Cup will receive support from Audi for racing in DTM (German Touring Car Championship) or the WEC (World Endurance Championship).

Markus Winkelhock said, “The Audi TT cup is a genuine race car, ideal for rookies, yet challenging to drive. You immediately feel that you’re sitting in an Audi and recognise the close kinship with the brand’s other race cars.”
