Maruti Suzuki Flags-Off Electric Vehicle Test Fleet

The electric vehicle (EV) test fleet comprises of 50 next-gen Wagon R models.

At the MOVE (Global Mobility Summit) held last month Maruti Suzuki had announced that it will soon start nation-wide fleet testing of electric vehicles (EVs). Yesterday a fleet of 50 EVs were flagged off from its Gurugram facility by Mr. CV Raman, Senior Executive Director (Engineering).

The Maruti electric vehicle prototypes are based on the next-generation Wagon R. The EV Wagon R has been exclusively developed by Suzuki in Japan and built at Maruti’s Gurugram facility.

Fleet testing of the electric cars will help Maruti to gather critical inputs based on customer perspectives. The extensive real life usage of the vehicles will help in validation and development of the electric vehicle technology.

Maruti Suzuki plans to launch its first electric car in India by the year 2020.

Last year Suzuki signed a MoU with Toyota for introducing electric vehicles (EVs) in the Indian market. Suzuki will produce the EVs for the Indian market and also supply some to Toyota, while Toyota will provide technical support.
