Mercedes-Benz GLS 400 4Matic Petrol Launched For INR 82.90 Lakhs

The GLS 400 4Matic petrol is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 engine.

Mercedes-Benz India has added a petrol powered variant to its GLS SUV range. Dubbed ‘GLS 400’, it joins the diesel powered GLS 350 d launched earlier this year. It will initially be imported as a CBU and local assembly is expected to start by the end of this year. The GLS 400 4Matic petrol is priced at INR 82.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “With the launch of the GLS 400 4MATIC, we have now completed our petrol portfolio for the Indian market. The introduction of the GLS 400 4MATIC is a strategic move as it gives the customers the flexibility to choose between the petrol and the diesel variants of their popular SUV. The GLS offers its occupants class leading luxury experience that no other full-size luxury SUV can match in this segment. This is also the fifth SUV variant we introduced this year, further bolstering our SUV portfolio which remains the most comprehensive in the luxury car segment. Our SUV segment has seen the maximum growth for the past two years and we are confident that this trend will continue.”

The GLS 400 is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine pumping out 330bhp and 480Nm of torque. The engine is coupled to a 9-speed automatic gearbox which sends power to all-four wheels. The GLS 400 has a top speed of 240 km/h.

Features available with the GLS 400 include full LED headlamps with adaptive high beam, Airmatic suspension with adaptive damping, panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system, multiple airbags, COMAND infotainment system with 8.0-inch display (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible), Dynamic Select with 5 modes (Comfort, Sport, Slippery, Individual and off-Road), memory seats for driver and front passenger, etc.

Mercedes was the hardest hit of all the companies due to the ban on registration of higher capacity diesel engine vehicles in Delhi NCR. Although the ban has been lifted, there is still some uncertainty over the future of diesel powered vehicles in the country. Therefore Mercedes has decided to have petrol variant options for its entire line-up in India.
