New Honda Amaze Sales Reach 30,000 Units

The new Amaze compact sedan was launched in May 2018 with the option of a diesel CVT model.

Honda Cars India has recorded sales of over 50,000 units of its new Amaze compact sedan in just five months of its launch. Bookings of the new Amaze began in April 2018 with the launch happening in May 2018. Honda says that it is the fastest 50,000 sales number of any new model recorded by the company in its 20-year history.

Honda says that more than 20% of the new Amaze customers are first time car buyers. 40% sales have come from Tier 1 cities and 30% each from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

Speaking on the success of All New Amaze, Mr Makoto Hyoda, Director, Sales and Marketing, Honda Cars India Ltd said, “The overall concept of All New Amaze was to develop a one-class-above sedan for Indian family use that exceeds the expectations of customers in the compact sedan segment. The response to the car with 50,000 sales in 5 months is overwhelming. The advanced CVT technology has found very strong acceptance among customers with 30% of Amaze customers opting for automatic variants in petrol and diesel.”

The second generation Honda Amaze is based on an all-new platform and features design inspired by the bigger City sedan. The front is now more prominent due to the thick chrome trim and the large headlamps which get L-shaped LED DRLs. The rear too gets a dose of a thick chrome bar with large tail-lamps. The dual-tone interior of the new Amaze is more premium in design and use of materials compared to the current car. On the inside the new Honda Amaze gets a large touchscreen infotainment system and more premium materials for the upholstery.

Depending on the variant the features available on the new model include 15-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, automatic climate control, cruise control, height adjustable driver’s seat, rear armrest with cup-holders, dual SRS front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, etc.

Powering the new Amaze are engines from the outgoing model – a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol producing 89bhp and 110Nm and coupled to either a 5-speed manual transmission or CVT, and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine producing 99bhp and 200Nm and coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. Honda has also introduced a CVT option on the diesel engine, but the power drops to 79bhp and 160Nm if you choose it.

The ARAI rated mileage figures for the petrol MT and CVT are 19.5 km/l and 19 km/l respectively while for the diesel MT and CVT those figures stand at 27.4 km/l and 23.8 km/l respectively.
