Tata Altroz, Buzzard And H2X– Geneva Motor Show 2019

Tata Motors showcased the Altroz hatchback, the Buzzard 7-seat SUV and the H2X sub-compact SUV concept at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show.

Tata Motors showcased the Altroz hatchback, Buzzard 7-seat SUV and the H2X sub-compact SUV at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS2019). The Altroz and Buzzard are near-production ready vehicles while the H2X is a concept model.

Tata Altroz - Geneva Motor Show 2019

The Altroz hatchback is the production version of the 45X concept Tata Motors showcased last year at the 2018 Auto Expo held in Noida. It is based on Tata’s new Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) Architecture which allows manufacturing of multiple body styles with a choice of petrol, diesel or full electric powertrains. The styling of the Altroz is based on Tata Motors Impact 2.0 Design language and is the second product based on it after the Harrier. Tata Motors has put great emphasis on bringing connectivity and everyday mobility together in the car. The Geneva show model is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 101bhp/140Nm. The Altroz is expected to be launched in India in mid-2019.

Tata Altroz EV - Geneva Motor Show 2019

An electric version dubbed ‘Altroz EV’ was also showcased in Geneva. The Altroz EV is powered by a permanent magnet AC motor with a single speed gearbox. Tata says that the batteries in the car can be charged to 80% in 60minutes and the car has a targeted range of 250-300km (on 100% charge).

Tata Buzzard - Geneva Motor Show 2019

The second model Tata Motors showcased in Geneva was the Buzzard – Geneva Edition, a 7-seat SUV based on its OMEGA platform. It is basically a 7-seat variant of the Harrier SUV launched earlier this year. Compared to the Harrier it is a little longer and features a slightly different and more upright rear end to accommodate the third row seats. The interiors of the Buzzard are same as the Harrier. It is likely to be powered by a 170bhp version of the 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine. We can expect the Buzzard to make its debut in India in the 4th quarter of 2019. Tata has said that the production model will not be called ‘Buzzard’ in India.

Tata Buzzard Sport - Geneva Motor Show 2019

The Harrier also made its international debut with a different name, Buzzard Sport. The Harrier name is already trademarked by Toyota in international markets and that may be the reason for the different name. The Buzzard Sport features a few cosmetic changes compared to the Harrier sold in India.

Tata H2X Concept - Geneva Motor Show 2019

The showstopper at the Tata Motors stand though was the H2X sub-compact SUV concept. Based on the same ALFA platform as the Altroz, the H2X showcases the future design direction of Impact 2.0 design. The H2X takes design cues from the H5X concept and shrinks them into a compact package. The reflective multi-zone glazing is inspired by visors seen on ski helmets and mountain bike goggles. A production version of the H2X is expected to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo and launched later that year. We don’t know yet if Tata will slot it between the Tiago and Nexon or replace the Nexon with the H2X.

Mr. Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD Tata Motors Ltd., said – “It’s a proud and humble moment for us today, as we stand here not only showcasing to all what we have in store in the coming year, but also being able to honour the commitments we made last year at this very time. We are excited to showcase to you the derivatives of our new future protected architectures – the ALTROZ, the ALTROZ EV, the BUZZARD* – Geneva Edition , the BUZZARD SPORT – Geneva Edition and the show stopper of the event, the H2X Concept. All these global products are based on the two new architecture strategy. We are confident that they will be game changers in their own spheres and will successfully reiterate our commitment to offer aspirational products with world-class design and technology.”
